Position Purpose

· Responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance programs developed to guarantee continuous production while maintaining food safety and meeting customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees performance of Pre-Operational and Operational inspections – documents review.
  • Works with porters during shift, to keep inside and outside of the plant clean.
  • Communicates with other departments in order to assure Food Safety and Quality of products.
  • Monitors freezer and cooler temperatures.
  • Reviews daily receiving records
  • Performs daily HACCP direct observations and record review.
  • Monitors daily QC paperwork
  • Does a daily walk through with the Inspector on duty.
  • Performs monthly internal audits.
  • Oversees and documents weekly environmental swabbing – test results review, arranges for corrective actions if necessary.
  • Collects samples to be sent to the lab for micro testing – test results review, arranges for corrective actions if necessary.
  • Revises Master Cleaning Schedule.
  • Supervises QC Technicians.
  • HACCP and Food Quality Plan reassessments.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, updating and improving of Food safety and Food quality Fundamentals (SQF policies)

· Observes day-to-day operations across all shifts to ensure quality products are produced for our customers.

· Maintains effective relations and communication with the USDA Inspector.

· Keeps current with USDA regulations.

· Monitors cleaning performance to ensure quality, safe products are produced.

· Manages corrective action report database to ensure measurable corrective actions are taken.

· Monitors customer complaints and overall trends.

· Completes monthly reports for established KPIs.

· Assists in developing and carrying out department’s goals, objectives, and systems.

· Oversees work activities and professional training and development of direct and indirect reports.

· Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or unsafe acts to management. (Should be added to all JDs)

· Suggest ways to control labor and costs as well as improve processes.

· Responsible for upholding, following and maintaining the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing.

· Other duties as may be assigned or volunteered for.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

· Spanish/ English bilingual.

· Average computer skills.

· Experience working with USDA facility and Health Inspectors.

· Personal skills necessary to maintain excellent working relationships with employees.

· Ability to cross train staff.

· Knowledge of SSOP, GMP and SQF requirements.

· Minimum two years of management experience.

· Ability to respond to common questions or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level

Required

· High school Diploma; State of Illinois Food Sanitation Certification;

· Associate’s degree or 5+ years of experience in the food industry preferred.

· HACCP certified.

· SQF certified.

Physical Requirements

· Able to work in a cold environment.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

· Walk and stand for a long period of time.

· Push or pull heavy loads.

Food Safety/Quality

  • Report any issues regarding food safety or quality to supervision and/or quality assurance.

·Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate attention.
