Rigetti Computing is building the worldβs most powerful computers to solve humanityβs most pressing problems. We believe this technology will fundamentally change the world for the better and will affect nearly every industry over the coming decades. Now a public company, Rigetti is looking to expand its Engineering Operations team through the addition of an experienced Microwave and Cryogenic Test Engineer.
This is a hands-on, Operations-focused role in a deep R&D environment. As a Microwave and Cryogenics Test Engineer at our Fremont, CA quantum computing FAB and R&D facility, you will work alongside a team of physicists, engineers, and technicians to support the development of leading-edge quantum computing technologies.Β Your responsibilities will include assembling and testing advanced RF assemblies, operating and debugging cryogenic systems, developing and maintaining best practices and standard operating procedures, and technical troubleshooting. You will utilize advanced electronic test equipment to characterize custom RF hardware in partnership with engineers from multiple disciplines, and you will play a key role in advancing Rigettiβs best practices around quantum hardware testing and deployment.
The ideal candidate has deep lab experience working with sub-Kelvin cryogenic equipment, and will have performed a hands-on function with interdisciplinary advanced technology teams at industry-leading companies, academic labs, or similar.Β
What You'll Be Doing
Operate, troubleshoot, service and maintain cryogenic equipment (scroll pumps, turbo pumps, cryo compressors, high vacuum valves/cold traps) including helium leak test procedures, pump rebuilds, and thermal system management
Assemble, validate and install complex electro-mechanical, cryogenic, vacuum and RF systems with superb attention to detail
Test and debug custom control systems in the form of validation testing on advanced RF components using electronic equipment such as network analyzers, DMMs, and tools developed in-house
Participate in test plan development and execution in support of next-generation RF hardware
Support cryogenic systems on-call in rotation with other members of the Engineering Operations team
Prepare, inspect and package quantum chip assemblies for testing
Follow established documents/procedures and create/adapt them as needed
Read and understand CAD drawings and engineering specifications
Support external system installations, working directly with customers and partners (travel up to 10%)
What You Bring to the Table
BS degree or equivalent in Physics, Engineering or equivalent industrial or military experience (MS, PhD nice to have)
Substantial lab experience working with sub-Kelvin cryogenic equipment.
Fluency with statistical methods for Test (Six Sigma, DOE, simulation, etc.)
Experience working with and maintaining large equipment of high availability systems
Proficiency with a variety of general-purpose electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, multimeters, dc power supplies, etc.).
Experience with dilution refrigerators or other cryogenic systems a strong plus
Programming experience in Python or related scripting languages is a strong plus
Experience with industrial lab equipment including vacuum plumbing, P&ID, and standard fittings and methods
Experience communicating with external vendors
Excellent communication, documentation and troubleshooting skills
$160,000 - $200,000 a year
