QA Lead

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced QA Lead – Playwright Automation to drive test automation strategy and ensure high-quality delivery across web applications. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Playwright with TypeScript, proven leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of modern QA practices, CI/CD integration, and scalable automation frameworks.

You will lead a team of QA engineers, define automation standards, and work closely with Engineering, Product, and DevOps teams to build reliable, maintainable, and high-performing test solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Playwright automation frameworks using TypeScript.

  • Define and implement automation best practices, coding standards, and reusable components.

  • Drive automation coverage across UI, API, and integration testing.

  • Ensure automation suites are scalable, maintainable, and integrated with CI/CD pipelines.

  • Review automation code and provide technical mentorship to QA team members.

QA Strategy & Quality Ownership

  • Own the overall QA strategy, including test planning, test execution, and defect management.

  • Define test approaches for functional, regression, smoke, sanity, and exploratory testing.

  • Ensure high test coverage aligned with business-critical workflows.

  • Identify quality risks early and proactively mitigate them.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of QA engineers and automation testers.

  • Allocate tasks, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of testing milestones.

  • Collaborate closely with Developers, Product Managers, and DevOps to shift quality left.

  • Act as the primary QA point of contact for stakeholders.

CI/CD & DevOps Integration

  • Integrate Playwright automation with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).

  • Enable parallel execution and optimize test execution time.

  • Analyze test results, flaky tests, and pipeline failures, and drive improvements.

Defect & Metrics Management

  • Ensure effective defect lifecycle management using tools like JIRA.

  • Track and report QA metrics such as test coverage, automation ROI, defect leakage, and release readiness.

  • Drive continuous improvement in QA processes and tooling.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have

  • 7–12 years of overall experience in Software Quality Assurance.

  • Minimum 2+ years of strong hands-on experience with Playwright Automation using TypeScript.

  • Experience in building and maintaining automation frameworks from scratch.

  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, async programming, and modern web testing.

  • Hands-on experience in testing Web applications (SPA, micro-frontends preferred).

  • Experience with API testing (REST, GraphQL) using tools/frameworks.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and test automation integration.

  • Experience leading QA teams or acting as a QA Lead / Automation Lead.

Good-to-Have

  • Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber, Gherkin).

  • Knowledge of performance or security testing basics.

  • Experience testing applications built on microservices architecture.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.

Tools & Technologies

  • Automation: Playwright, TypeScript, JavaScript

  • Testing Types: UI, API, Integration, Regression

  • CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI (or similar)

  • Test Management & Defects: JIRA, TestRail (or equivalent)
