Description

biBerk is part of Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance. We build and operate digital insurance products and platforms that help small businesses get covered quickly and confidently. Our teams partner across Product, Engineering, and Operations to deliver reliable releases, protect customer experience, and continuously improve how we build software.

The QA Manager owns quality delivery for one or more product domains and leads a team of QA professionals across manual and automated testing. This role drives modern quality practices including shift-left, TDD/BDD, automation strategy, and risk-based testing. The QA Manager ensures predictable release readiness, strong stakeholder communication, and measurable improvements to SDLC throughput and defect leakage.

Job ResponsibilitiesΒ

  • Lead and develop QA team members through hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career progression.
  • Establish and enforce quality standards across the SDLC, including shift-left practices, test strategy, and definition of done.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Engineering Managers to ensure acceptance criteria are testable and complete before development begins.
  • Drive BDD/TDD adoption using Gherkin-style scenarios and promote early test design and peer reviews.
  • Own automation direction for the domain, including prioritization, coverage targets, tagging strategy, and CI/CD execution gates.
  • Oversee test planning and execution for functional, regression, end-to-end, integration, API, and exploratory testing.
  • Implement and maintain quality reporting, dashboards, and metrics (coverage, cycle time, defect trends, escaped defects, flakiness, environment constraints).
  • Manage risk proactively by identifying gaps, raising blockers early, and proposing mitigation plans with clear timelines.
  • Coordinate with cross-team QA leads and shared services (automation COE, performance, accessibility) to align standards and reduce duplication.
  • Ensure compliance with audit needs for traceability (requirements to tests to defects), documentation hygiene, and release evidence.
Requirements
  • 8+ years in software quality assurance with 3+ years in QA leadership (manager or lead-of-leads).
  • Experience delivering quality in Agile environments (Scrum and or Kanban) with strong SDLC governance.
  • Hands-on understanding of modern test automation and frameworks (UI and API). Experience with Playwright strongly preferred.
  • Experience with test management and work tracking tools (Azure DevOps preferred) including test plans, test case design, and defect workflows.
  • Strong ability to translate business requirements into robust test scenarios, including negative paths and edge cases.
  • Experience implementing shift-left practices (early test design, BDD, TDD collaboration) and improving cross-functional behavior.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including executive-ready updates and stakeholder management.
  • Insurance domain experience (commercial lines, small business, policy workflows, quoting, underwriting, endorsements, documents) preferred.
