Reliability Engineer / Mechanical Integrity Leader
The Reliability Engineer & Mechanical Integrity Leader provides strategic leadership and hands-on technical direction to ensure mechanical integrity, quality assurance, and asset reliability across manufacturing operations. This role drives Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and regulatory compliance for process equipment, advances site Mechanical Integrity maturity, and optimizes equipment performance to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) while minimizing downtime. The leader uses SAP/CMMS and standardized reliability practices to prioritize equipment repair/upgrade, implement foundational maintenance programs, and coordinate turnarounds and capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
Reliability Engineering & Asset Performance
- Develop, lead, and implement programs, systems, processes, and equipment upgrades that improve equipment reliability and OEE.
- Champion foundational Maintenance Reliability Programs: precision alignment, balancing, lubrication, oil analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Apply engineering practices to perform failure analysis (RCFA/FMEA) and conduct equipment performance evaluations.
- Participate in DuPont maintenance & reliability networks (or internal company networks) to share best practices and improve site reliability.
- Provide Reliability Leadership and coaching to maintenance technicians and contractors.
- Standardize procedures and equipment within areas of responsibility to drive consistency and quality.
- Support mechanical turnarounds/shutdowns with input on equipment inspection and repair procedures, scope readiness, and post-work verification.
- Identify and support training needs for maintenance technicians and others in Reliability and Maintenance functions.
- Analyze equipment trends and historical data to recommend improvements
- Develop maintenance strategies and spare-part strategies (PM/PdM, critical spares) to prevent failures and meet production objectives.
- Ensure processes are followed for updating equipment records in CMMS and maintenance plans; drive data quality and governance.
- Use SAP tools to identify key equipment for repair/upgrade, prioritize work, and manage materials/spares; integrate SAP with CMMS workflows.
- Support site capital projects with technical input for equipment selection, materials, installation, and commissioning standards.
Mechanical Integrity Strategy, Governance & Leadership
- Strategy Development
- Develop and communicate long-term strategy and short-term objectives for Mechanical Integrity to advance the site to maturity (regulatory and policy compliance).
- Leadership & Capability Building
- Through training, reviews, and coaching, emphasize effective first-party audits and incident investigations to advance MIQA performance.
- Monitor and analyze Mechanical Integrity metrics/Mechanical Integrity Risk Model, audit results, and assessments; follow up with site leadership to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Implement standard MIQA tools and approaches to optimize effort and accelerate maturity.
- Integration & Systems
- Partner with EHS, PSM, and Capital functions to collaboratively advance MIQA.
- Work with offsite resources to deploy IT systems (SAP/CMMS/document control) effectively and generate value from MIQA data.
- Support and champion cost and capital budgets tied to run/maintain, repair, and replacement needs identified in MIQA.
Communication & Networking
- Routinely participate with corporate & regional networks for Reliability and Mechanical Integrity.
- Communicate Mechanical Integrity status through periodic leadership reviews and standard reporting (dashboards, maturity assessments, audit outcomes).
- Maintain strong working relationships with leveraged engineering resources at the business and corporate level in support of Mechanical Integrity work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs degree in engineering or comparable degree with 5+ years experience, or 10+ years experience in mechanical roles.
- Knowledge of how Mechanical Integrity work is applied to effectively manage risks at sites.
- Knowledge of API inspections (e.g., API 510/570/653) and compliance practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, formal and informal.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and lead through influence across sites and functions.
- Ability to articulate the business value of Mechanical Integrity work.
- Familiarity with PSM and risk management concepts as an integrated system.
- Familiarity with RAGAGEPs (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices) for industry standards.
- SAP knowledge and how to apply it to maintenance work.
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding of R&M systems used to execute mechanical integrity work (RBI, RCM, RCFA).
- Background and experience in tests/inspections of equipment (e.g., NDE methods) and damage mechanisms/materials science.
- API licenses, NDE certifications / knowledge of certification schemes.
- PSM background with practical application at operating sites.
- Experience with predictive technologies (vibration, oil analysis, thermography) and condition-based maintenance.
- Experience with data analytics, equipment performance dashboards, and continuous improvement methods.
