Who We Are
State Street’s Wealth Custody & Clearing (WC&C) business delivers institutional grade custody, clearing, and platform services to wealth managers, broker dealers, and financial institutions. As WC&C modernizes and scales its digital platforms, quality engineering and automated testing are critical to ensuring platform reliability, data integrity, and regulatory grade controls.
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to serve as a hands-on quality engineering contributor, embedded within Wealth Technology delivery teams and accountable for building robust automated testing solutions across frontend, backend, and integration layers.
Role Summary
This role is a senior individual contributor position focused on test automation, quality engineering, and software validation in a regulated, production critical environment.
You will design, build, and maintain automated testing frameworks, partner closely with developers and product teams, and act as a quality advocate throughout the software development lifecycle. This position emphasizes engineering driven testing, not manual execution, or people management.
Core Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for frontend, backend, and API driven systems
Build and execute automated test suites covering functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end scenarios
Partner closely with application developers, product managers, and platform engineers to embed quality early in the SDLC
Validate system behavior across wealth custody, clearing, trading, and servicing workflows
Create and maintain test data strategies that support repeatable, reliable automated testing
Identify, document, and track defects while contributing to root cause analysis and defect prevention
Ensure applications meet enterprise expectations for accuracy, reliability, resiliency, and regulatory compliance
Support production readiness efforts, including release validation and post deployment issue analysis
Required Experience
7+ years of experience in software quality engineering, SDET, or test automation roles
Strong experience working as a hands-on individual contributor embedded within engineering teams
Proven ability to design and implement automated testing solutions for complex systems
Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments where quality and control are critical
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence quality outcomes without formal authority
Domain Exposure – Wealth & Financial Services
Exposure to wealth management, brokerage, or financial services systems is strongly preferred
Familiarity with validating workflows such as:
Account and portfolio lifecycle events
Trading and order management processes
Operational servicing and exception handling
Understanding of testing needs related to role-based entitlements, data accuracy, auditability, and controls
Experience supporting systems subject to regulatory oversight (e.g., SEC, FINRA) is a plus
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent)
Experience testing API based and microservices architectures, including integration and contract testing
Familiarity with Java, JavaScript, or other backend/frontend languages used for test development
Experience working with CI/CD pipelines to integrate automated testing into deployment workflows
Knowledge of performance, resiliency, and negative path testing concepts
Strong understanding of testing best practices, quality metrics, and defect management
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Equivalent practical experience will be considered
