Maybell Quantum is seeking an experienced Controls & Test Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team and take ownership of embedded controls, system automation, and testing workflows. Our ideal team member can excel in a fast-paced hardware-based startup environment.Β
ResponsibilitiesΒ
This role combines real-time controls, embedded software, and hands-on cryogenic test work. You will design and implement robust control systems for thermal and fluid hardware, while contributing to system integration, diagnostics, and performance verification.Β
- Design and program embedded systems for active thermal control, diagnostics, and telemetryΒ
- Develop closed-loop control algorithms (e.g., PID for temperature/pressure regulation)Β
- Create and maintain SCADA or HMI interfaces for system monitoring and controlΒ
- Design circuits for sensor integration, heater actuation, valve control, and interlock logicΒ
- Capture and analyze test data; contribute to system performance optimization and root-cause analysisΒ
- Support troubleshooting and validation of prototype hardware in a lab environmentΒ
- Maintain documentation for testing, data logs, and failure analysisΒ
- Work closely with the broader design team to integrate sensors, actuators, and control logic into the overall system architecture, ensuring the final product meets performance and reliability targetsΒ
Basic QualificationsΒ
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related fieldΒ
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with embedded control systemsΒ
- Experience integrating sensors and actuators into system designsΒ
- Familiarity with Python or C/C++ for embedded developmentΒ
- Strong troubleshooting skills with electronics and controls softwareΒ
Preferred QualificationsΒ
- Proficiency in PID control loop design for thermal/fluid systemsΒ
- Understanding of thermodynamic systemsΒ
- Experience with cryogenic systems such as dilution refrigerators, Β³He systems, or pulse tubesΒ
- Familiarity with DAQ hardware and softwareΒ
- Experience with high voltage wiringΒ
- Electrical panel design to UL/NFPA/ATEX codesΒ
- Comfort working with vacuum systems, cryostats, or experimental thermal equipmentΒ
