Test Engineer

Introduction

eCOGRA is seeking a dynamic, meticulous, hardworking Test Engineers with a strong technical acumen, to join our innovative Testing Laboratory environment in Cape Town.Β  The candidate must have a strong ability to interpret technical requirements, work well under pressure and be deadline driven.Β 

The Land-Based Test Engineer will conduct technical evaluations of gambling hardware and software systems, ensuring they meet the standards set by provincial regulators and South African Technical Standards (SANS 1718) This includes testing slot machines, limited payout machines, bingo terminals, betting terminals and associated peripherals used in licensed land-based gambling operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • System Testing & Validation
    • Perform functional, compliance, and performance testing on gambling devices and systems.
    • Apply relevant standards such as SANS 1718 and provincial and national acts, rules, regulations and requirements.
    • Document and report test results, defects, and recommendations.
  • Technical Analysis
    • Interpret technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and execute test plans and scripts tailored to each product.
    • Analyze system logs, data flows, and device behavior.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure all tested systems meet the requirements of the relevant Provincial and National Gambling Boards.
    • Prepare Test reports and certification documentation
  • Client & Vendor Engagement
    • Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers, and licensees to coordinate testing schedules.
    • Provide technical feedback and support during pre-certification and post-deployment phases.
  • Project Management
    • Manage multiple testing projects concurrently.
    • Track progress against timelines and regulatory deadlines.
    • Maintain detailed audit trails and version control of test artifacts.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology (or equivalent diploma).
  • Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in hardware/software testing, preferably in the gambling industry or regulated technology sector.
  • Previous experience in the Gambling industry as a Technician an advantage.
  • Familiarity with C,C++, Java, .NET, and SQL is advantageous.
  • ISTQB certification preferred.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport; willingness to travel for on-site testing.
